TREE STEWARDSHIP
During spring 2016, third graders and their science teachers, Bernadette Napoleon & Janine Clancy, partnered with Trees New York and to become tree stewards for P.S. 116!
Part of their new responsibilities in caring for the trees planted on East 32nd & East 33rd Streets include:
-
removing litter from tree beds
-
pulling invasive weeds
-
cultivating soil and mulch
-
watering
-
planting flowers
They are also charged with requesting new trees to be planted in any empty tree beds. Thank you, Cheryl Blaylock, Director of Youth Programs, for helping to entrust our 3rd graders with this new and very important responsibility!
